I guess it does not say much for Puerto Rico when I visit a post office and then feel compelled to blog about exceptional service. However, even as restaurant workers in Puerto Rico (who earn tips for a living) are still slow, slow, slow… it’s refreshing to run into Nelson Bobe and other staff members at Boqueron’s US Post Office (00622).

I have visited the post office in Boqueron before, and every time I get great service.

They have fantastic English speaking skills, are very quick to respond to you and offer service, are believability friendly, seem to enjoy their work, have never appeared to be in a bad mood, always work quickly and professionally to help prepare your package for send out, and are knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the different delivery options and pricing comparisons.

Nelson demonstrated extra skills today on top of that. Once he noticed my name on the shipping label, he took to asking me by name if I needed anything else, and wished me a good day by name when I left. Anyone in Sales/Marketing should know how important something as simple as a smile and knowing someone’s name is in customer service. Nelson mastered that, and did his entire job perfectly while still managing to entertain my daughters, both 7 or under. Quite an accomplishment, especially since service was fast and I was on my way quickly.

I also noticed that he had a US Postal Service manual on how to reduce waiting time which he was reading in between customers. Does anyone really read them? Yes – Nelson does… and that is a critical factor in why this location is run so well. They care about doing their job well, and are interested and motivated in learning how to do it even better.

So if you feel like you never get good service in Puerto Rico (i.e. you might have just visited the Sprint store in Mayaguez near Sam’s Club), then find something to mail and go visit Nelson Bobe and the others at the Boqueron Post Office for a refreshing change.

By the way – maybe their is something about the postal business that attracts good people because the private company PostNet in Cabo Rojo also has great staff that are very friendly and helpful.
