Redneck, Ghetto, Whatever... A drive by example of the sloppiness and neglect of Puerto Rico, island wide.
Yes, I yearn for Feng Shui in Puerto Rico, but it’s becoming screamingly more apparent that it’s not going to be found in the vast majority of inland Puerto Rico. If you’re live here or are visiting, the open water is probably your best retreat.
The photo shows a house/business on the 102 in Cabo Rojo. The home is right on the 102 and although it appears to be a residence, it looks like a junk yard for old washing machines.
I’d be the first one to tell you that I really dislike visiting San Juan, due to its status as one big hunk of concrete covered urban jungle. In fact, during a presentation at the Arecibo Observatory last week-end, the presenter dedicated a slide to showing how San Juan looks like a big block of concrete from a Satellite view from space. Que rico?
When I drove by this place (in the photo), I certainly did re-think the value of concrete. Yes, how about a wall that blocks this eye sore from public view? Does Puerto Rico have *any* standards whatsoever for the cleanliness, organization, or visual aesthetics here?
This home is just one example I recently happened upon. It’s far from being alone.
I’m going to assume this is an honest business person repairing and/or reselling washing machines and not a pack rat or some kind of open air museum dedicated to the rusting of household appliances.
- Can I also assume this person has never been asked by a representative of the municipality to fence in his property, to hide this eye sore from public view?
- Should I assume that there are no municipal standards or bi-laws to prevent this mess?
- Can I be convinced this area is dually zoned commercial and residential?
The comedian Jeff Foxworthy became famous for completing the catch phrase: “You might be a redneck if…“.
Well Puerto Rico…
You might be a lot like a redneck if… you live anywhere in Puerto Rico and keep a mess like this at your home or business.
Let’s assume for a moment that people who visit Puerto Rico and those that live here can actually see more than the beach and the mountains. If we subtract the beach and mountains, we’re left with what? Trash and disorder? Que rico?. No… Que Pitiful.
Without leadership, how can we expect the people to do anything different than they’ve always done? Hey Perza Rodriquez… what are you working on? When you finally finish the roads, do you think you could give this some attention?
I bet if asked, this humble business person would probably install an adequate fence and clean up his yard. If not, then haul all this trash away. Dump it here perhaps?
