Mayor Santini Calls Off Calle 13 Concert After Criticism of Fortuno Layoffs
Jorge A. Santini Padilla cancelled the Calle 13 concert in San Juan after the group made comments on MTV’s Latin music awards criticizing the government plans to layoff a further 17,000 workers from the vastly inflated government payroll:
Mr. Pérez will not be bothered by the decision because I don’t think he is interested in benefiting economically from an event that was going to be held in a facility administered by government personnel for whom he has no respect.
You’re referring to the government leadership, not really the general personnel I assume. Otherwise, this seems a bit contradictory, no?
Machismo, machismo, faschismo… The stick before the carrot leadership.
Apparently Santini thinks his mayorship should be conducted similar to parenting of an insolent child, and has forgotten about free speech or the wishes of the citizens who would have filled the arena to be entertained.
So, Mr. Santini big thumbs down to you for openly punishing an entertainment group for daring to say anything negative about the government’s decisions. Amateur and frightening move.
For the record, I could care less about Calle 13 or any other reggaeton group. It’s not my favorite genre. But your action here is weak and embarrassing.
Are you going to increase property taxes for San Juan citizens who dare to protest, or will you just shoot them?
Let him know what you think:

To those getting laid off: You have been given a great gift! At no other time in your life have you been given such an opportunity to move your children to the United States mainland, where they can get the education they deserve.
