Does reading “Puerto Rico: A Paradise Lost?” stimulate your desire to make a difference in Puerto Rico? Students, amateurs, & professionals alike are invited to participate in the process of change.
- Do you have skills in writing or photography?
- Do you have an anonymous tip?
- Do you have aspirations to join the blogosphere as a citizen journalist?
Here are some ways you can help “The Insider” bring awareness and improvement to Puerto Rico & the lives of everyone who lives here:
Photo Journalist
See something that needs attention? Send your photo to “The Insider” for addition to an existing story, or as the focal point on a new story suggested by you, and featuring your photo(s). Full credits available if desired.
Citizen Journalist – Writer
To be a citizen journalist you really need only one thing: The ability to recognize and describe the need for change.
We will evaluate your level of skill. If your writing is polished, you may be eligible for unedited publication. If you have the right idea and need a little assistance with your writing, “The Insider” will review and help finalize your material.
You can publish either anonymously or under your own name or pseudonym. This is up to you. In either case, in addition to helping bring focus to issues in Puerto Rico and the need for change, writing here can help you build a portfolio of your writing.
What makes a good article?
- Find an issue that bringing attention to could help make a positive change.
- Give it a title that snaps the viewing audience out of zombie-like trance, caused by their info-overloaded brains.
- Communicate to “real people”:
- Do not make your article so “prestigious” you expect a Pulitzer.
- This is not about big words. It’s about speaking to the common man in their language.
- Inject your opinion, and let your passion come through.
- Keep the reader awake.
- This is NOT CNN. You don’t have the benefit of hiring DL Hughley to liven it up. Do that with your own words.
That is rarely easy, but if you “try” you will already be a little closer to the goal.
Anonymous Source
We are not concerned with who you are. If you want to maintain your privacy, it is your right to do so. You can still become an anonymous source for article leads.
There are some basic rules. We must be able to verify some of your claims. Photos or other evidence are encouraged, and claims will be evaluated more intensely, since “The Insider” does not desire to publish any false or misleading information and will take reasonable countermeasures to prevent that from occurring.
How to Proceed
You can submit anonymous tips/article ideas, photos, or articles directly to “The Insider” at:
If you want to continue participating in a more formal manner, please include a description of your intentions within your email.
Note: Everyone is encouraged to contribute, and much of what you submit will end up being published. However, “The Insider” maintains editorial control and there may be situations where tips, photos, or articles submitted may not be published on the site.
If you know there are issues being overlooked, and we would all be better off with them changed, what are you waiting for?
