Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon of Bayamon, Puerto Rico is a slick and undefeated southpaw, with a 31-0 record. He'll be headlining the "Latin Fury 6" pay-per-view in a rematch versus previously defeated Hugo Cazares.

FightNews.com has the full report here.

During the interview, when asked a seemingly scripted question about boxer's and their finance decisions, he said:

A lot of fighters feel that once they get their first taste of having more money than their accustomed to that they have to live a certain lifestyle. Not me. I buy nice things because I've worked hard for them but I will proudly drive a Honda just like I would a Mercedes or BMW.

Interesting note. I know people who make a lot less money than a successful champion boxer, and they don't drive a Honda! So it would be refreshing to know Ivan is taking a level headed approach to life. But don't believe everything you read. If you have an inside scoop with differing info on Ivan's lifestyle, by all means, please let us know.

Other reasons to like him:

  • He visits Puerto Rican schools to speak to the kids about the positive alternative to street life.
  • He is still undefeated, unlike Miguel Cotto who feel at the hands of the punishing Antonio Margarito.
  • FYI - Did you know Ivan beat Miguel Cotto in the Amateurs! :)
  • He was a popular contestant on Puerto Rico's version of "Dancing with the Stars". :)

Let's hope he is the real deal and not just a follower of "De La Hoya's Golden Boy Likability Marketing Plan".

Props to anyone who can post a picture of what's parked in his driveway in Bayamon. :)
