I like salad, I admit it. I like "rabbit food".

Now, if you're not from Puerto Rico and you sit down for a nice dinner, either at a restaurant or a private residence you might be a bit surprised by how profoundly understated the side salad is. Very, very basic indeed.

As seen here, it's basically some lettuce with a big slice of tomato on top. Don't like tomato? Just move it aside, and you're still have, ummm..., lettuce.

Top it with the Puerto Rico "super sauce", which is amazingly ketchup mixed with mayonnaise! Mind blowing, I know. BTW - It actually is pretty tasty on bolitas de pesca (i.e. fish balls, more specifically: "breaded fish", not actual fish balls).

So there you have it. Stick with the Caesar if you can find it. FYI The franchises still have a house salad more in line with a Gringo's expectations.

And by the way, as per the title that got your attention, they do not toss the salad because it's just a piece of tomato on top of a piece of lettuce. No need for tossing. :)
