Forget the days of illegal handguns. A 9 mm might take a few shots to get the job done, and cannot hold of an the entire police force like the movie "Heat" or a scene from one of the Rambo movies.
Melvin Omar Velez-Santos was found guilty as the leader in a gun smuggling ring from Florida directly to the gangs in Puerto Rico in exchange for cocaine.
The ring purchased guns from legitimate gun dealers in Florida from 2004 through 2007 and then shipped them to Puerto Rico disguised as other items
Weapon of choice? None other than AK47s. I guess now we know why the police in Puerto Rico drive with their lights on.
On an island 110 miles by 40 miles in size, we don't have much room to run.
