When things happen slowly, or we observe the effects gradually, we may underestimate the true significance of what is happening.

Many people are outraged to learn that Nepal sacrifices as many as 200,000 animals (of varying types) every 5 years in the name of Hindu deity Gadhimai. The picture gives just a sample of the slaughter.

Something to consider: If we were to pick up all the dead animals from the streets of Puerto Rico, or those dying of parasitic infestations, poisoning, or hunger; and put them all in one place - you would have a scene very similar to the Nepal slaughter - and I have no doubt the citizen's of Puerto Rico would pay more attention.

Yet - as they die one by one in the streets, or in the supposed "sanctuaries", month after month we collectively fail to see the enormity of Puerto Rico's slow murder.

And so the slow slaughter continues...
